Under the Diligence Development Fund (DDF) Project supported by GIZ
bioRe Association, Kasrawad, Madhya Pradesh, India, is implementing a Biochar-based Diligence Development Fund (DDF) Project supported by GIZ.
bioRe Association invites applications from qualified Technical Consultants (individuals or organizations) with demonstrated experience in biochar and carbon projects.
Scope of Work
The selected consultant will support the project between April 2026 – March 2027.
🔹 Deliverable 1: High-Level Carbon Standards Assessment
Timeline: Dec 2026
Output: Report/Presentation
The consultant (ClimateRe or equivalent expert entity) will conduct a high-level assessment covering:
• Overview of relevant biochar carbon standards
• Applicability of these standards to:
o Smallholder, decentralized biochar systems (with reference to Remei India and Remei Tanzania)
o Farmer group-based registration models
o Individual farmer-based carbon registration models
• Assessment of potential adaptation/replication in other geographies, including Tanzania
• Identification of key assumptions and replication conditions
• Technical requirements including:
o Feedstock eligibility
o Monitoring systems
o Permanence and leakage considerations
Deliverable 2: Farmer-Friendly Carbon Pathway Design
Output: Written Report
Timeline: December 2026
Preparation of a non-binding carbon pathway design document outlining:
• Preconditions for future carbon eligibility (post-DDF)
• Suitable carbon registration processes
• Legal structuring of carbon rights
• Engagement models with carbon buyers
• Data, monitoring, and governance requirements
• Institutional roles of stakeholders
• Risk management and ethical safeguards
• Indicative timelines and cost estimates (including indicative audit costs for small-scale decentralized models)
This document will:
• Serve as a strategic roadmap
• Avoid legal or financial obligations
• Support informed decision-making post-project

🔹 Deliverable 3: Knowledge Exchange & Replication Learning
Timeline: To Be Defined
Support facilitation of:
• One structured online knowledge exchange between:
o Remei India
o Remei Tanzania (via Remei AG)
• Sharing of lessons on:
o Biochar systems
o Carbon readiness
o Institutional design considerations
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants (individual consultants or firms) must demonstrate:
• Proven experience in biochar carbon projects
• Familiarity with voluntary carbon standards
• Experience working with smallholder or decentralized agricultural systems
• Strong analytical and presentation skills
• Ability to work with multi-country institutional structures
